I decided to have invisalign treatment a few years ago, and it was the best decision I made. As the name suggests they are invisible aligners and no one even noticed I was wearing them, which was great!
I had worn fixed braces as a child but was not given retainers to wear long term. We now know that teeth will move throughout life, so they are also a very important part of decision making when opting for orthodontic treatment.
Invisalign aligners are very easy to wear and there was nothing in the roof of my mouth to affect my speech. I was prescribed a couple of boxes of aligners, which I wore for 20-22 hours a day, for 2 to 3 weeks each. I removed them for eating, keeping them safe in a box, that is provided, during every meal. I was able to drink water when wearing them but discouraged from drinking tea or coffee as this could have caused staining to the aligners and very hot drinks can distort them.
In order for my teeth to move I had tooth coloured attachments placed on my teeth, accordingly to my invisalign prescription. These felt a little rough to start with while eating but they quickly become smooth and as my aligners were worn over them the rest of the time it was not a problem.
During my treatment, I had to use chewies which look like rubber cotton wool rolls. Their job is to seat the aligners firmly onto the attachments which in turn put pressure on my teeth to move them, all clever stuff! I had to bite down on the chewies for about 15 minutes a day, which is best done at night, so they are seated properly overnight.
My treatment lasted 18 months but obviously everyone is individual so if you are interested or know someone that is interested, please ring us for a free consultation 01794 519589.
